Don't know if this has been asked before but, can you fill a Brita pitcher on shabbos?
Is it different on Yom Tov?

My rabbi told me yes, but the situation was extenuating so I don't know if that's always the answer.

I heard two contradictary psaks.

1. If you wouldn't drink the water (like me in Jerusalem) without filtering it is OK.
2. It is ONLY OK if you DON'T always filter the water...

Take your pick...

what does not always filtering mean? Like if I drink from the tap sometimes?

I dont understand what the issue is. What are you separating exactly? There has to be a thing you want and a thing you dont want and theat doesnt exist here.

If you are filtering because filtered water tastes better, then I could see
an objection. If you are filtering out "little critters" (near microscopic water bugs),
then that might be OK. One option, of course, is to drink seltzer on Shabbos
or prepare a carafe of water beforehand (the practicality of this would depend
on how much water you and your household normally drinks on Shabbos).

If thats the case, whats the point of filtering?
