I say you should start with a bang and have double reason to be happy
A: Its Rosh Chodesh
B: Its Adar

B: Its Adar

Its not. Its lamed shevat.

Its a hakdama for Adar, its called rosh chodesh and as far as I recall not rosh chodesh Shvat

I would say no, other than the usual happiness implied by Rosh Chodesh. Incidentally I had a cup of decent wine at about 1:15 PM today but that was for other reasons.

I say it would depend on how "Mishenichnas Adar marbin b'simcha" is translated.

What possibilities do you see other than "Upon the commencement of Adar, we increase our joy."?

I have also seen it translated as:

As Adar approaches, we increase our joy.

The derech of many exuberant children is to take any chance to be marbeh be-simcha they can find.

Does that make sense to you? Can you find any other place where "nichnas" refers to a point/time prior to actual entry?

"Entering" necessary means you have not yet entered.

"At the entering of Adar we increase our joy."

No its not R"C Shevat, but its still in the month of Shevat. Albeit the wee end, but still Shevat. Hence the OP's question.

It says MIshenichnas. That means "When Adar has already begun". Even by your definition, you are not "at the entering" until you have already entered.

No. It means "From the entering." The "entering" period begins just before one enters.

I respectfully disagree. Find me one other instance where such a use of the word clearly indicates a period/point before actually entering. Further, if it as you claim, what is the shiur? Should we be happier one nanosecond before Adar starts? One minute? One hour? One day? The Mishna is not clear according to you.

And when do you say shema? And when does shabbos end? Please!?

Furthermore look at the word "marbin" which you your self translated as "increase." In other words you get happier and happier. The closer it is to adar the happier we are the closer it is to av the sadder we are.

Av doesn't prove anything, neither in terms of observance nor in terms of the linguistic issues.

And "marbin" doesn't mean you "get happier and happier"; it means you get "happier" and then you stop.

Happiness is not discrete.

That said my chavruah agrees with you so you are probably right. I'm just saying I've seen it translated the other way. And maybe that way the OP was asking. Also my chavrusah did feel the first day of Rosh Chodesh Adar could be included...
