I'm not sure. But if you remember when he was near death he was bedridden. IIRC he asked hashem to give him illness before he died, and was the first to die from illness.

Yaakov got ill before he died
וַיְהִי אַחֲרֵי הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַיֹּאמֶר לְיוֹסֵף הִנֵּה אָבִיךָ חֹלֶה וַיִּקַּח אֶת-שְׁנֵי בָנָיו עִמּוֹ אֶת-מְנַשֶּׁה וְאֶת-אֶפְרָיִם.

Was David sick before he died?
Aviyah ben Yeravam got sick and died (Melachim I, 14:1, 14:12)
The son of the Isha Shunamis got sick and died.
Elisha got sick and died (Melachim II, 13:14, 13:20)
Chizkiyahu got sick but didn't die.

I have to read Melachim... and all of Nach really.

Anyway, there no one in the Chumash other than Yakov? I thought the midrash was that Yakov got sick because he asked for a sign before death, so that he can prepare, and that's how illness entered the world... (If I'm remembering right). It's surprising that so few other people got that sign after him in the Chumash.

Is it better than Shmuel?

Dovid Hamelech did not get sick....He was told he'd die on a Shabbos and knew the malach hameves couldn't take him if he was in midst of davening or learning. He used to learn nonstop and Hashem sent a diversion so that he could die.
It does say that he couldn't find warmth before he died, but no specific illness.

I was referring to Nach. At least, the parts I've learned (I should read more.)
