That's such a beautiful article!

Has there been any progress finding a donor for your husband?

I'd been thinking a lot lately about organ donation (and I'm O+), though I'm sure my kidneys won't test out for donation after reading the article. Every pregnancy was with gestational diabetes, which does long term damage to the nephrons. Hadn't really ever thought of that.

Recently Ezer Mizion did a bone marrow registry drive, and I was glad I caught it the day they were here. I'd wanted to register years ago, and thought I'd have a chance when I had to drive to the merkaz anyway. However, it costs 250 NIS at Shneider to register! That wasn't in the budget, but when they do a marrow registry drive it's free. So I finally got my interesting genetics into the bone marrow registry.

Feel free to contact me if you ever need anything here.
Our prayers are with you.

What a beautiful mitzvah!

Based on my medical history, I can't even donate blood. :-(
My family always jokes that its a good thing, because given my personality I would have already donated half my body parts by now.

Wow.

5 years ago I signed up to be a bone marrow donor. They sent me a kit to send back a swab from the inside of my mouth I think... Anyway, I bailed out... just couldn't do it, I'm not brave enough with the medical things. Maybe I should...

I read that article. What are we supposed to be discussing?

Whatever you want.
As I wrote in my op, I just wanted to share.

Moshi, not everyone can do it.

Another interesting website, not jewish though, about kidney transplant is: http://www.johnfmartin.net/index.htm

It's a good article to share. Actually, when I read it, before she wrote who she donated it to, I was hoping it was your husband. smile.gif

I was a little puzzled that she wrote an article about it. If you donated a kidney, would you publicize it?

I think she felt she would do a lot of good (and she is right) by explaining what is involved, why it's not something to automatically dismiss, how many people need, how she managed through it, etc.

Right. That's what I figured.

BTW, since some of you asked- the 3rd altruistic donor for my husband is supposed to be undergoing his/ her final tests tommorrow.
