You get a text message that got sent to the wrong number and after you explain that to the sender they tell you that it must be fate and you should go out. What do you do?

If it's someone you might be interested in anyway (e.g., Jewish, male, etc.) I would totally go for it. Just imagine the great story you would have if it worked!

Not a leaf falls by happenstance.

As much as I believe in fate, I also believe in there being some sketchy guys out there....

I got one of those once. If I recall correctly, the sender wished me a "fun time in the bathroom." I ignored it, of course.

When I was in NY and got a cellphone, my sister was calling the wrong number and leaving messages for WEEKS before she figured it out. Finally the guy answered and he was SO excited to finally talk to her. He also used the "hasgocha pratis" pickup line, but my Sis was less than receptive...

Darn. My intel is off again. They informed me that s/he only has four aliases and four numbers. What the secret fifth?

something like this happened to me. the guy would call back every month or so and leave a message about how we "need" to meet in real life because it "must be fate" that he had called my number in error. this went on for about two years, until another unfamiliar number showed up on the caller ID. turned out to be his girlfriend, wanting to know why my number was in his phone. so i told her the whole sordid story, which she didn't quite believe at first ("are you accusing my boyfriend of being psycho???"), but then i got another call from her two days later informing me that she had "confronted him" and that i "turned out to be so right, and [she's] going to dump him for sure." i thought i was finally all done with them, but then two weeks later "fate guy" left me another voicemail, urging me not to "let [his] girlfriend scare me off from following down the path fate had carved." strangely enough, he gave up after that and i haven't heard from him since...

Why don't these stories ever happen to me? The closest story I could think of was when I was bored during my year in Israel I would randomly call people in North Korea and try to strike up a conversation with them (I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to call North Korea, something the US Government would not let me do once I returned to the US).

That is by far the most interesting thing to do when one is bored if you can pull it off. Only you would come up with something like that.
whypeas?
A very close friend of mine, is getting married in a few weeks to a relative of another friend of his, who gave her his number to prank-call. The rest as they say, is history.

Hey, he messaged me again today. I can forward your number to him if you'd like, though I take it you'd prefer a girl messaging you.

Details. Please.

Regardless, this story has more potential to begin with because the person who set up the prank knew both of them and if they're hanging with the same type of people it makes more sense than a random wrong number. I still can't figure out if someone gave this freak my number to play with me or if it was an honest mistake. Either way, he's not Jewish as far as I can tell.

If he's not Jewish, it's not fate.

(Perhaps he's really halachically Jewish and doesn't realize it and his connection with you will bring him back on the derech and and he'll become a BT and y'all will get married and have 10 kids over the next 12 years.)

(Perhaps I need to not read any more of that Coincidence book.)

I'm implying that she shouldn't date/marry a non-Jew. (In my humble opinion.)

Now, if you were to say that the purpose of this mix-up was not to lead to a relationship but rather to spawn this lovely thread, that I might be able to buy.
