"There is nothing more distorted than celebrating Pesach (Passover) overseas," prominent Zionist Rabbi Zalman Melamed said in a weekly op-ed published in the Komemuyot Movement's pamphlet.

The holiday is still two-and-a-half months away, but the religious press is already filled with ads offering attractive travel deals to numerous destinations abroad.

"During the holiday, we call on people to be close to the (Jewish) holy sites, to the Land of Israel and to Jerusalem, and not drift away from holiness, God forbid," the rabbi wrote.

The Torah is quite clear that Pesach is one of three regalim where all able Jewish men are supposed to come to Jerusalem. For the rabbi to encourage people to stay in Israel for Pesach seems to me to be a reasonable interpretation of Jewish law!!!!

I mean he does have a point. Especially the hordes of Israelis who leave Israel to go to Sinai.....
It's more than a bit ironic....

Let me get this straight.
The Sinai is part of Israel enough to make it to the "Greater Israel" map, but not part of Israel enough for people to go there on vacation...
Besides, most of the Israelis that go to Taba are secular, so I'd suggest this Zalman Melamed person is mostly talking to himself.

Sinai may have been part of Israel but like Eilat, it is not, nor ever was Eretz Yisrael. Similarly much of Lebanon, while not Israel is certainly part of Eretz Yisrael. Why is this hard to understand?

That's not what he said at all. Learn how to read...
