If you post a post immediately after posting a previous post, without other posters posting in between, sometimes the second post appears as an independent post and sometimes it gets automatically appended to the first post.
How much time do you have? I assume after X amount of time your second post appears as a second post, but if you do it really quickly, it gets appended to the first post. What is X? Is it the same in all forums [ie upper level and lower level]? How does it affect the post count?

IME it's three minutes, and the two posts get counted as one for post count.

Hold on, I'm going to try it. My watch says 5:12.

Interesting.

I was under the impression that the last post by: time reflects the appended post, but I guess not.

Right. That's why I asked above it the forum makes a difference.

If someone else clicks "reply" before you post immediately after, the posts will be separate.

Even if the second person hasn't posted the reply? As long as anyone is composing a post, any subsequent post by the first poster, even within 2 minutes, will be separate?

I think so.

I think so.

The way to test that is for someone to post something, and then to post again within two minutes but after seeing that someone reading the thread is responding [ie when their name goes into italics]. If you're right, then the second post should be separate.

Does it really matter?

Does it really matter?

Assume it does. Or pretend it does.
