Would you offer advice that you personally don't live by? Let's say you know the textbook right answer to the person's question, but you personally don't live that way. Should you withhold your advice until you actually reflect it in your personal example? If you do offer advice, would you make it clear that this is an issue you struggle with and don't necessarily follow? (As in, "I don't necessarily do this, but I once read that in your situation it's a good idea to....")
Also, would you consider the advice of a person who didn't live by it?

I frequently give advice that I don't take myself - and usually the person in question points out that I make the same bad decisions despite knowing better, and then ignores me.

I don't get it. For example, I know how to lose weight. I am, however, not always on a diet. Does that negate my diet advice ?
