Do you think it's appropriate for a man to ask about a married woman's hair? How long it is, curly vs. straight, etc?
Kalashnikover_Rebbe
It is certainly a bit odd...
ruthie
it's a little creepy!
Classic
It depends on the circumstances, but in most cases, I think it's inappropriate.

I am having trouble thinking of even one example where it would be appropriate. Perhaps if he is a barber?

I'm thinking the opposite. Name one situation where it would be inappropriate?

I think it's weird, but I've been asked by non-frum people and frum children (usually wanting to know what color my hair REALLY is, or if I've shaved).

single male shabbos guest to the hostess: "your curly sheitel is beautiful. is your natural hair also curly?" or "i noticxed that your eyeborws are dark while your sheitel is blonde. are you a natural brunette?"

creepy, weird, and inappropriate.

are you a natural brunette?

No man would ever ask that question.

Why not? Not every man has a thing for blondes.

I guess the way you ask it is sounds kind of weird. But if you ask in a normal way and you are just curious, what's the problem?
Why creepy/ inappropriate?

Depends on the context.
(Personally, I'm happier when someone asks if I have hair than if they wouldn't ask and assume that I'm bald...)

It seems like there's a distinction between frum men, nonfrum men, and nonJewish men.

Of course inappropriate. If a woman's hair is supposed to be covered and hidden away, why should it be discussed? I'd imagine that if someone is asking about it, he's imagining it. Why should a man think about a married woman's covered hair?

Why not. There's nothing indecent about a quick thought about hair. Obviously if he is thinking about it for more than a few minutes there's a problem. But seriously, he's not asking you for your bra size.

Wait a second, did you mean the hair on her head? Because I just assumed....never mind.....

I think it's kind of weird, but I'm not sure that it meets the threshold of inappropriate. I might just wonder though why he is so curious about her hair and what else he is thinking about her.

That said, as long as he's not actually touching her hair, I think this is not such a big deal. Believe it or not, I once had a male colleague come up behind me when I was at my desk and start inexplicably stroking my hair while we were discussing business. blink.gif Talk about an uncomfortable situation.

Men shouldn't ask but there's no reason a woman shouldn't (besides politeness).

i don't think i'd feel the same if it was a non-frum or non-jewish man who asked.

um, that's why you thought that a barber might be an exception...

for a woman it could be plain curiosity - "you have curly sheitel - is it becuase you are used to having curly hair and loved it?"
