‘Binge drinkers should pay the cost on health’

DRINKERS who end up in hospital accident and emergency departments as a result of their boozing could be presented with a bill afterwards if a Labour MP gets his way.

Kevin Barron, chairman of the House of Commons health committee, has called for the measure as a way of discouraging binge drinking. Drink-related hospital admissions nationally have increased by one-third in two years.

East Dorset's two acute hospitals would not comment on Mr Barron's idea, saying it was for the Department of Health and government to decide.

That's just silly. Firstly, if they pay tax then they should be entitled to help regardless of their drinking problem. Secondly, if binge drinkers are going to be charged, then by that logic so should smokers, people who eat too much, people who eat too little, people who play dangerous sports etc etc which would never work. Its just a stupid Labour 'idea'.
