True or false: Instant oatmeal is not as healthy as regular oatmeal.

if true, why?
Classic
(I may not be looking hard enough, but I've never found regular oatmeal at the stores in which I shop .)

True or false: Instant oatmeal is not as healthy as regular oatmeal.

Because instant gratification is unhealthy. Plus it has been processed more than regular oatmeal, and it is a virtually incontrovertible rule that foods lose nutritional value and/or are to some degree made less healthy when they are processed.

IMO, instant is better because of the added vitamins. Look at the nutritional info on a canister of plain oatmeal - not as good for you as many instant brands.

BTW, there's also Quick oats, they usually come in a canister and have no sugar added.

And you can get instants oats with no sugar added, too.

Oh, I'm actually referring to quick oats. (I just assumed we were talking about packets vs. canisters).
Belle
True. Instant has all kinds of additives. Raw oatmeal is very very healthy.

Seriously? They must have it! Look for a big red box, or roud cannister that says Quaker Oats.

Isn't that the same as instant? If it isn't, then I don't get the difference.

It depends what it says. If it says "Quick-1 Minute" then it's not the raw oats version.

That's all I've seen around here.

My understanding is that the only difference between quick and regular oats is that the oats are ground into smaller pieces so they cook faster. I'm not referring to the little packets with flavorings.

I used that line of reasoning when I was a kid to convince my mother to let us have "Junk Cereal". Surprisingly enough it actually worked...
It only has more vitamins because they artificially stick them in there. That doesn't make it healthy.....
