Are those the only two possible choices? You didn't read the Igerot Moshe?

I'm sure we've had this discussion several times:

Summary: It is forbidden to give a wedding ring under the chuppa. Whether or not a man may wear a wedding ring is a matter of dispute. Beged isha isn't the issue (since men's rings are specifically designed for them and a woman wouldn't wear one); I think the usual concern is chukat ha'goyim. However, if you're wearing one because non-Jews will think you're hiding your marriage if you don't, then not a problem.

Hiding your marriage? Why would it be interpreted that way? Maybe I dont' like rings, or my fingers swelled and my ring doesn't fit anymore, or I don't think it's any of the world's business.

I'm not saying that that's what you are doing--just that if you're worried people will get the wrong idea, then you're not just doing it to follow goyish fashion, and so not a problem (according to people who believe that wearing rings is copying goyim).

Sorry, just re-read; it should say "if you think non-Jews will think..."

Don't you love how some communities play that card when it's convenient for them?

He also says it's permitted. Here's the teshuvah. The characterization of "mechuar" is at the end of the first paragraph:
