I'm not entirely sure what "kedusha" means, but I once heard yom-kippur puts the "Keds" back into "kedusha" so there.

The root of the word is perhaps better translated as "designated" rather than "holy". For instance, the term "kadaisha" refers to a prostitute, as she is designated for a specific purpose.
