Probably hormones...
Or you are allergic to some cosmetic you are using...

try washing yourself more than once a month

Yes, it's normal. TEENAGE acne is a myth.

It most certainly is NOT. The hormonal changes that come with puberty can often cause acne (in both sexes). As can pregnancy....

I'm not saying there's no such thing as teenage acne; of course there is! But it's not LIMITED to teenagers. Or to pregnancy.

It could be any number of things.
Most likely some allergy (either food or cosmetic)
or even stress can induce a breakout....

Stress
Bad reaction to new facial cosmetics/cream
hormone changes over the month
hormone changes as part of aging
hormone changes due to medication (like birth control which helps some peoples skin, others it doesnt)
Over irritation of the skin- do you exfoliate too often for you skin? or irritate it while washing

do you have a good skin care regimen? If not, work on that first!

Been there, maybe I was 31, I can't remember .... it could be stress, hormones, or any of a bunch of things, but now you have to treat the result, not the cause.

See a dermatologist, and be ready for a loooong haul in finding what works for you .. and don't be shy to ask for samples, sometimes the dr will recommend several $100 cremes and none of them will work ....

Stress, hormones.
They're interrelated also, as stress causes hormone release and certain hormone releases are stress to the body.
It could also be dietary-related, or that you've been using a more oil-based foundation, or something else.
Or allergies as others said.
Interestingly enough, when I was a teenager, I was horrified with my few pimples on my chin that I started using an astringent to clean my pores. Evidently, it was too strong for me or I was heavily allergic, as I broke out with red pimples all over after.
Another possibility for women who wear bangs or hair in the front, or similar wigs - is that hair oil can drip on the face and together with dirt...can cause an eruption. Wigs are the same although they don't produce natural oils because they accumulate the oil, sweat, and debris that the body amasses over time.
