1. You are walking with your date and a small dog runs up to you and starts barking very loudly and keeps following you. Your date kicks the dog and it runs away.

2. Your date comes prepared with a dvar torah

Is the dvar Torah delivered before or after he kicks the dog?
Arizona
Kicking a dog (or a child, for that matter) would be a complete turnoff. No way the relationship could progress.

A dvar torah is nice but not expected or required and I wouldn't even think about it if it weren't there.

Would you feel the same way if it weren't a domesticated animal?

I think it would depend.

Rat, rabbit, squirrel, raccoon, skunk, goose--

Say it was a goose.

1. Horrible turn-off. I like dogs (and most animals)
2. Nice, but not expected.

The deciding factor for me isn't whether or not it's domesticated but whether my date (or I) were in danger. So, a dog with a collar who was clearly aggressive and trying to bite us might need to be kicked as a matter of self defense. Same with a rabid looking squirrel. However, I interpreted your OP as the animal was annoying but not dangerous. A wild non-dangerous animal shouldn't be kicked and doing so would be a turn off.

If my date kicked any animal, the date would basically be over right that minute.

I don't think any of my SDJ's has ever said a dvar Torah, but if were appropriate for the conversation it would be nice.

A (short) dvar torah is nice but not expected or required and I wouldn't even think about it if it weren't there.

What if it was a sewer rat?

A rat is not going to attack you as you walk down the street.

I have no patience for people who are terrified of animals and either run away from them or kick them. Even if you're scared, the smart thing to do is walk away.

I've made chicks give over a dvar Torah on dates.....
