I had a rebate that needed to be filled out and mailed by a certain day, I was out of the country for a large part of the time for the remainder of the valid time for the rebate.

I called the company and they gave me an extension until 2/28/08 (postmark). I only looked at it last night and realized it was for 2/28, and not 2/29. I called the company and spoke to a rep, who said 2/28 was the deadline. I also emailed the rep I spoke to in January.

Should I send it in anyway? Should I write a note explaining that I assumed it was valid until the end of Feb.?

(oh, it wasn't for $5)

Send it anyway. See what happens. All you have to lose is 31c more. Don't send a note. Some idiot employee might not look at the date and issue the rebate without looking.

It's 41c, so to be 42c, btw...which is irrelevant. (i'd like my $60)

eta: i guess i was stupid to email the company last night-- now they have my request...eeks

I haven't sent out a letter in so long I had no ide what the price was. Knew it was X1c.

I hate rebates. I won't buy anything that makes me send in a rebate unless I absolutely can't get it anywhere else at that price. Rebates are set up to make you mess up. Either that or the company messes up or just doesn't send you a check. Most people won't remember that a check is due to them and will forget about it. The other 10% will contact the Better Business Bureau who are powerless and useless.

I do them all the time. The kuntz is to make sure to mail it out that night. Photocopy all documentation you send and put it in mail immediately so you can't get any run-around. I have always gotten the rebate.

My concern is that I already rcvd an extension, b/c I was out of the country and for some reason the extension was til 2/28/08 and not 2/29/08- they may have forgotten about the leap year.
I'll send it anyway and see what happens.

Lucky. I'd be willing to bet that none of those rebates were for cell phones. Either way, you have no way to ensure that you will get the rebate once you send it off. Most people aren't willing to go to small claims over a missing rebate.
