Depends on what you mean by "need" and "so young."

It depends on the community and the individual, but not later than 20 for guys and 18-19 for girls.... (maybe wait until after Sem)...

Can you please explain why this early? Do you think most know what they are looking for or what marriage is all about at this age?

I don't think this is early at all. 16-17 is early..... I have a friend who married a 15 year old....

And that is the whole point, I think marriage and adulthood is something to be grown into together. Why go and make an independent life for yourself only to have it all turned over by dating and marriage? It only makes it harder to find someone, and acclimate to marriage later. Again it depends on the community, someone where one or both parties are planning to go to college and make a prestigious career it wouldn't work. But if the guy is in Yeshiva and the girl is working or looking for things to do around the house, why not get married as early as possible???

When Chazal said ben 18 l'chuppah I think they were on to something......

Should have started in high school - isn't young love beautiful? Started when I got out of the parental clutches.

Maybe if it's love.

Seems like the majority of you started btwn 20-21.

Did you start because you felt you were ready or because of pressure?

S'all right, just maybe other people's votes were erased too.

I was 24, which was when I felt I was ready to get married.

My girls started when they were between 18-19 and were married within the year. Eldest started when she was 17.5 and got engaged when she was 17 yrs 10 months which is why I got to be such a young grandma. My boys started around 20.

I think the trend is to start dating younger than what was considered normal a few years ago. I officially started dating when I was 18. Didn't get a date for a while though. It was because I wanted it and had nothing to do with pressure. I don't think people need to start dating so young.
