Is a man not permitted to pee standing up if it's into a toilet or urinal which effectively eliminate the odds of dripping on one's feet?

Well it says you can do so if you are standing higher up, or if it is into soft earth, so I would guess that you can.

(here I was thinking you were going to start another thread about toilet paper and witchcraft).

that was way down on my list. My second choice was starting a thread about what a "tefach" means in terms of uncovering - if it's a linear tefach, a square tefach, or a tefach in either length or width, with implications for how much hair can be uncovered in a married woman and how that tefach is measured.

Last year, I think, in the hair covering threads here people (possibly including myself) linked an article about tefachim written by (forget who) in response to R'Falk, and it included a discussion of tefachim, and IIRC the amount one is permitted to uncover with pants down was used as one of the proofs in that article.

That would be R. Yehudah Henkin.

But even then it is common for droplets to splash out and possibly sully one's feet or over-clothes.

Ah, right. That was an article in Tradition (no longer available for free thumbsdown.gif). But I see R'Henkin has a book out now on this topic.

I remember years ago reading a fatwa about this exact topic on a Muslim "Ask the Mullah" site. I googled "fatwa", and this was the first thing that came up -- iirc the answer was that one is not permitted to pee standing up due to this droplet issue.

He specifically mentions this tefach thing in that new book and derives there how to understand a tefach from this halachah regarding uncovering in this siman.
