That yeshiva world report gave the young father's name wrong. Luckily one of the two comments corrected it. He is ben Faige not ben Sima. I should know. She's my friend. And it's not exactly a frum American family; only the wife was American; her husband is from London.

And latest is that he doesn't have any internal injuries just bad external ones. No brain trauma etc. He will need plastic surgery however. The driver has internal injuries. My son went to the levayo.

This is so sad. I don't think I could break such news.

We were so careful how we did it...in person not over the phone, and when we called the mother home from work, we didn't tell her too many details on the phone; just that her son had been in an accident but was OK, stable and in hospital. We didn't say her DIL and granddaughter hadn't made it. We coudn't get hold of the father for ages, but when we finally did..someone had already told him...by phone... "oh so sorry to hear about your tragedy"...when he didn't know anything about it. What a way to learn such news.

Well how about this one.... The Arab driver of the BMW who collided with the family, is lying in intensive care in the same ward in Hadassah as the injured husband....

Are you sure Pinchas is serious about the other car being stolen?
Even if the vehicle was stolen, it would only be murder if he was escaping the scene of the crime, ie had just stolen the car. Otherwise it would be vehicular manslaughter. No?

Pinchas never kids around. He's the most serious person I know.

It could also be murder if he intentionally rammed the Jewish car. I understand that happens a lot, but probably only when the Arabs are driving big trucks rather than cars.

So you are probably right: unless it was a hot pursuit situation, the Arab can't be charged with murder.

The husband is B"H doing well. He didn't even have to have surgery after the accident. There was so much blood that at first it was hard to see the extent of his injuries but they turned out to be skull injuries. So he's bandaged up and has to stay in hospital this week but he's conscious and coherent. His parents should be there by now (they also didn't have time to fly in for the levayo) but he has a lot of support around him and will be having grief counselling.

The driver had worse injuries but he'll be OK. Broken ribs and a punctured lung among others.





I don't think it was a hot pursuit thing; it was a head-on collision. One or other of them was overtaking without care...question is, which?

I don't know that it was stolen... but it makes sense that it would be.
