Do you have a picture of him right side up? Where is he from?

From what I can tell, he's a beetle of some kind.

It may be a beetle, but it's not that beetle. While I can't see the top of him, I doubt that his body is segmented to that extent. And the mouth is completely wrong.

Not at all a beetle. It's more anty, but doesn't look like 100% ant either ...

Is that a termite?

I actually had a relative who had a PHD in entomology. He worked down south during the 30s when the dust bowl caused entomological issues. Later he was an exterminator. His slogan was-Only exterminator with a PHD.
