Really now, do they expect you to spend the rest of your life waiting for some files to be copied?

laugh.gif I thought you had lightning fast FiOS though. What happened?

I'm not quite sure how FiOS is relevant here, as it should be fairly apparent from the screenshot that I am attempting to copy files from my hard drive to a DVD-RW. This does not (well, at the very least SHOULD not) involve the internet or any networking whatsoever.

Yes, I can see that now. I didn't look at what you were copying.

Actually you'd be lucky if it were the rest of your life... it works out to over 101 and a half years... and seven hours.

You also know you need a newer computer when you think, 3.82 GB -- now that's a lot of space...

Another "feature" of Vista...

On the other hand I suppose it could be taken as an indicator that Vista is such a good OS that Microsoft is confident it can run and remain stable for over a century straight. It would have been a neat touch if a programmer at Microsoft would have set it to say "101 years, 56 days, and 7 hours" or something to that effect (numbers made up).

My bittorrent client does that, I tried downloading something that it estimated would take over 2 years to finish bigcry.gif

The problem is that by the time this finishes, no one will be using DVDs anymore, and it is unlikely there will be any drives that read them outside the Smithsonian......

Plus, I love how it says "ABOUT 37053 Days and 7 Hours" - as if they know it won't be 37054 days, but it might end up taking 37053 days and say, 8 hours....

(Forgive me, but that proposition is just very ludicrous.)

Can you explain what you're doing that should take so long? Just copying some pictures? When I switched to a new computer I uploaded a lot of pictures to my Gmail account, and it was a pain, but it didn't take more than an hour or so total.
