red.

i might switch back to blue, cause i read that kids after 2 can drink skim milk already, and i don't taste teh difference between the red and blue, but it'll probably be better for my weight.
Classic
I drink 1%, but can you please add an option for 3%? Milk here comes in skim, 1%, or 3%.

All whole milk is red and skim is blue? Never knew that.

alternate between skim and 1%
Psychodad
I used to drink 2%, now whole milk. Skim milk tastes like water to me.

no, you probably just replied because this was the closest thing to a breast feeding thread at the moment.

Skim does taste like water. No, it's the only thread I can actually answer and know what the question means. (How was I supposed to know what SI stands for?)

If I could I would only use creams - heavy or light. But there is no light cream within eyesight and heavy cream is only sold in expensive huge (relatively) jugs that tend to go bad in a very nasty fashion, so we have to stick to good old whole red milk.

Few things are as delicious as a glass of cold whole milk out of the refrigerator. Try it some time; it takes a leap of faith.

Warm milk with lots of clover honey dissolved in it, too, is irresistible but in a different fashion.

i actually didn't know that red is whole, but blue is not skim, green is. blue is just reduced fat, iirc

We get heavy cream in half gallons.

Clearly you are a brave, pioneering soul. Who ever would have fathomed that such an endeavour could be accomplished?

Then again, I can't even remember the last time I drank regular milk....

Maybe it varies between different places but we have green=skimmed, red=semi skimmed, blue=full fat.
I only like the skimmed stuff, and i like the fact it tastes of water.Wierd, i know.
Apparently the calcium content is identical, its just the fat content that differs, so i'm pleased i like the skimmed stuff.

I've gotten used to the 2% which is not bad. Whole milk is better, and half and half is better yet, but considering I drink a lot of milk it would add up to a lot of calories...
Once I decided to start a diet and bought a box of grape nuts and some skim milk. Actually I could have saved money by having some shredded cardboard soaked in plain tap water...
Elana
a stupid question: what does "whole milk" mean? is it the same as red/full fat (not skim or reduced) or something else?

Right. It's milk that (hopefully) besides being pasteurized, homogenized, having vitamins A&D added and coming in a refrigerated plastic container is the equivalent of drinking it straight from the cow.

Can't say I blame you. We once milked a cow and then everyone drank it....I was beyond grossed out by it.

Over here it's the reverse: blue is whole, green is semi-skimmed (1.7%) and red is skimmed. Same for cream (double, whipping and single respectively).

The fat content of milk actually depends on the breed. 3.5% is normal for Holsteins. Israeli cows are pushed to their limits and their milk is slightly lower in fat. In the UK you can get Channel Islands milk (from Jersey and Guernsey cows) which is 5% fat.

I mostly use milk in cooking, and buy whole (a fair bit of it goes into cooking things for the baby). Skimmed is nasty, and it can cause problems in cooking. Husband buys semi for his Weetabix.

Not with cholov yisroel. There, green is skimmed, red semi skimmed and blue whole.

I tried voting skim by the way and it kept coming back that I hadn't voted. I have gotten used to skim milk and don't like anything more creamy tasting. I don't have milk in tea; only on cereal. I drink tea black with fresh lime and fresh ginger chunks.
