Note: I have carefully checked the new rules and have seen that hopefully this is okay to post because it's about the avatar and not the member. And to clarify, this is about the avatar and not the member. It's just an easy way to start a topic in an entirely neutral manner.

Note, too, that this is not about the art or presentation but about the idea therein.

Note, too, that in order for this thread* to be understandable to future** generations of H.com’ers, you should post the avatar.

* Assuming it survives the associated trials and tribulations.

** OR even tomorrow's given KR tendency to change his avatar quite often.

Could we pull it off? Would it hasten the rebuilding of another structure on that site?
Elana

When you say "we," do you mean h.com?

I think that Israel could have done it with impunity in 1967, and if anyone had complained, Israel could have pointed to the desecration of dozens of shuls and hundreds of graves carried out by the Jordanians in the Old City.

Yes (or apparently, something like that).

Anyone who cares.

When you say they could have, do you mean they should have?

You better believe that blowing up the Dome of the Rock would lead to a major war with Muslim states, possibly including Pakistan and its nukes (and, thus Israel's "ambiguous" nukes too).
Believe me, I'd like to see the Beis Hamikdash too, but the question is, "at what price?"

I doubt it. Rav Goren was advocating this in 1967, and was flatly rejected by the Israeli government. Even when Rabin (yes, Yitzchak Rabin the former PM) had the Mughrabi quarter in front of the Kosel bulldozed to make the giant plaza in front of the kosel (a pretty bold and controversial move) he knew he couldn't bulldoze the mosques. Even the flying of an Israeli flag from the Dome of the Rock was quickly and unequivocally stopped by the army itself (ie within a couple of hours).

I think people often overestimate reaction and talk big.

For example if someone told you ten years ago: imagine if Arabs hijacked airplanes and use them to knock down the twin towers and also hit the pentagon... well if that ever happened you better believe it would spark WWIII and a nuclear war!

Well did it?

What could have the (defeated) Arabs have done about it in 1967?

Moshe Dayan's decision to give the Temple Mount back to the Muslim Nazi Waqf may have sounded noble and considerate, but instead of showing any appreciation for that gesture, the Arabs took it as a sign of weakness.

Exceedingly unlikely... In fact if you were in Israel you could be "detained" just for asking such questions.....

Yes, the Zionist Entity and their Court Rabbits would immediately rebuild the Mosques even bigger and sturdier than they are right now bigcry.gif

In any event, I think G-d would be so shocked at the display of Emunah and Kiddush Hashem, that He would probably have a heart attack.....

Interesting bit of kefira that last part... it any case there would be no point it trying anyway. There are only two ways it could happen. If the government decided to do it - likely the only such government would be one lead by moshiach himself. And of course the other way would be the bies hamikdash falling from Shamayim.
