How did you realize that you or a child/other family member had a food allergy/sensitivity?

Did you/person play around with diet with consultation of a medical practitioner or by yourself?

Did you read up on symptoms, causes, etc. on the internet or in books?

Some things are fairly obvious, such as lactose intolerance, etc. The more complicating ones are harder to pinpoint.

I recently found out that my husband has a food sensitivity which I suspected on my own, but had clarified by a gastrointerologist. I wouldn't want to diagnose on my own. Playing around is fine, though, IMO.

It helps if the person goes into anaphylactic shock. That is a great way to tell you have an allergy!

Anaphalactic shock, is not a particularly fun experience. BTDT.

I was tested...
Interestingly the foods I was deemed allergic to (like corn and tea) don't even bother me.....

What made you suspect it?

That could happen for other reasons.

Being allergic to things is fashionable these days. More often than not, the person is not allergic at all. They might have a slight intolerance.

For example I thought I had a wheat intolerance; I felt bloated and uncomfortable after eating a bowl of pasta or some bread. But it's a common reaction to many low GI carbs, and doesn't mean I am intolerant of it.

Babies can be born with cows milk allergies due to the dairy products their mothers had while pregnant. This is not a lactose intolerance because breast milk has lactose too. True lactose intolerance is quite rare and usually babies who are intolerant to the lactose in cows' milk can tolerate human milk quite OK.
