You know those mishloach manot donation cards that people send in lieu of sending candy crud, like the ones that say, "Happy Purim. A donation has been made in your honor to help victims of terror/expulsions/eczema blah blah blah".

Should the charity chosen be reflective of the predilections of the donor or the receiver or does it not matter since a charity is a charity?

If the charity will be an obvious slap in the face to the recipient, then don't do it. i.e. don't send to the Hamas fund to support families of suicide bombers, even if you think it's a worthy charity.

Are we talking about secular or Jewish charities?

Is there an inyan to donate to your community before others?

The cards to not take away the requirement to give the minimum amt of mishloach manot, anyway[....they should be known as matanot l'evyonim cards.]

What qualifies? If it's a donation in someone's name l'chvod Purim (in lieu of candy crud) that's one thing (keeping in mind having to give bare minimum at least of MM) or giving cards by donating as matanot l'evyonim..

[get what i'm saying?]

[what about fulfilling MM and Matanot L'Evyonim with the same item-- i.e. buying and giving Tomchei Shabbos MM, with the money going to TS]

People (generally) don't use these cards to be yotze mishloach manos *or* matanos l'evyonim. The issue is that people have MM lists that are a mile long, and it's a total waste of time and money to send people more junk that they will never be able or desire to eat. So sending a card is a nice way of showing they weren't forgotten while not wasting money on junk food. I'd much rather that someone put the $5-10 they would spend on a shalach manos for me and put it into a worthy charity.

Jewish charities. Let's like Emunah Women, and sending it someone who has no connection at all to that sort of charity.

I don't think anyone should send these at all.
It's like saying, "I feel obligated to send you SOMETHING, but you aren't important enough to actually send an Easter Basket" shalachmanos...
If you're too lazy to send me a gift, don't bother sending anything at all...

The mitzvah is to send food to other people, there is NO inyan whatsoever to send donation cards.
