Why do people tend to associate this with a bloody revenge campaign and think when you write it that you are calling on revenge killings?
Where is the source for this saying?

They associate it with revenge? I thought it was the opposite- we feel no need to revenge ourselves, for our God does it for us. "Hashem Yilachem Lachem v'atem tacharishun", Hashem will fight for you and you will be silent. "Hashem Ish Milchama"- Hashem fights our wars for us.

I'm assuming you're referring to Avinu Malkeinu nikom l'ainainu dam avadecha hashafuch.
